Sharon McCarthy

Hello, I am Sharon McCarthy and I am a parent governor at Lander Road Primary School. My role on the Governing Body is to bring a parents/carers perspective into the meetings and decision making that governors have to do. I will do my best. I have supported my children and lately my grandchildren too through their education. Now as a special guardian to my nephew, I am once again back on the school run, after the normal morning routine of lost book bags, missing water bottles and checking that his shoes are on the right feet. Some mornings, things just don’t go to plan. I’m sure you’ve all been there too. My background is in the charity and voluntary sector, where I spent many years developing, running and managing community engagement in partnerships, projects and regeneration schemes. I have worked with many local groups to access funding and to build partnerships with other organisations, some of which are outside of the UK. Some of my most exciting work was with groups of young people who wanted to learn about democracy and decision making in the UK and supporting a youth parliament that stretched across Europe. I am passionate about people participating in the services they use, helping to shape and change to improve those services. Parents and carers participation is important to our school. I will be looking for ways that may help parents and carers to understand more about the Governing Body and hopefully become engaged in our work. We want your views. Your opinions count.

Sharon.
