In Year 3 children learn to:
- Experiment with a range of pencils
- create close observation drawings
- draw both the positive and negative shapes
- create sketches as a preparation for painting
- make accurate drawings of people – particularly faces

In Year 4 children learn to:
- Identify and draw the effect of light on objects
- develop scale and proportion in drawings
- make accurate drawings of whole people including proportion and placement
- create computer generated drawings

In Year 5 children learn to:
- create the effect of light on objects and people from different directions
- interpret the texture of a surface
- produce increasingly accurate drawings of people
- understand the concept of perspective

- the effect of light on objects and people from different directions
- interpret the texture of a surface produce increasingly accurate drawings of people
- understand the concept of perspective
Sketchbook demonstrates increasing skill and knowledge of exploring different textures, use of shadows, drawing of faces/figures/concept of perspective.
