Andrea Mallaburn - Vice Chair of Governors

I am local to the area as I grew up near Bootle Cemetery and attended local primary and secondary schools, including studying for my A Levels at the Hugh Baird College. After I gained my degree and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Manchester, I continued at the University to train as a teacher of secondary science. I started my teaching career in the East End of London and taught in two secondary schools in London for the first 7 years of my teaching career. I relocated back to Liverpool in 2002, and started teaching and leading the Science department, in the largest secondary school in Liverpool. At this school I led many initiatives for teaching and learning across the whole school including the introduction of the Assessment for Learning strategy. In 2010, I was seconded to Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) as a Senior Lecturer in Teacher Education (Chemistry) where I am currently employed. I gained promotion at LJMU and I’m now the Partnership Lead; my main role is to foster strong links with primary and secondary schools across the North West. Although I still lead on the Chemistry Education course to develop secondary science teachers of the future.

Throughout my teaching career, I have been a governor for 14 years across local schools; Lander Road is my third governing role. I find that the children at Lander Road are friendly, confident and strive to do their best. I believe that the parents and carers, the teaching and support colleagues and the governing board want the best life chances for the next generation of children leaving Lander Road and the wrap around care provided for all of the children is commendable. I feel honoured to be part of such a nurturing school with a ‘can do’ ethos which is directly instilled in the children.
