On Tuesday 10th October, we took part in an Islamic Awareness day in school. The day started with a parents' myth-busting interactive workshop looking at misconceptions and which included a Q&A session. This was followed by a series of ‘Living Islam’ workshops for each year group from Year 2 – Year 6. These were run by Imran Kotwal, a qualified teacher and an outstanding classroom practitioner. He has extensive experience of teaching Islam to young people of all faiths and none. His work in schools and colleges has received excellent reviews from Head teachers and Principals. Imran also worked as an Ofsted additional inspector in 2014/15.
The aim of the day was to promote a greater understanding of Islam in schools to foster better relationships between learners of all faiths and no faith. Year 3 looked at the five pillars of Islam and how Muslims worship.
